How the estimate works

The calculator multiplies your photo and video counts by typical file sizes, adds your apps, messages and backups, then adds a growth margin so you do not run out in a few months. The result is a rough total, not a measurement. Your phone shows the real numbers in Settings, and the real numbers always win.

To check your own numbers on an iPhone, open Settings › General › iPhone Storage. On Samsung and other Android phones, open Settings › Battery and device care › Storage (the path differs by brand). Enter what you find, and use the estimate to pick a plan.

Which plan sizes exist

iCloud and Google One both start with a small free allowance (5 GB on iCloud, 15 GB on a Google Account). Paid plans come in steps, so the tool rounds your total up to the next common size. Prices change, so check the current price on Apple's or Google's own page before you buy.

Remember that Google's allowance is shared by Gmail, Drive and Google Photos, and iCloud's is shared by photos, backups, iCloud Drive and Mail. A full account stops backups and can block email, so leave some room.

Frequently asked questions

How much iCloud storage do I need?

Add up your photos, videos, device backup and iCloud Drive files, then add about 20% room to grow. Most people with a few thousand photos fit in 50 GB or 200 GB, and heavy video shooters often need 2 TB.

Does the free 5 GB of iCloud storage back up everything?

Rarely. Photos alone can fill it. When the space runs out, iCloud Backup stops and you get a storage full warning.

Is my information sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing you enter leaves your device.
