Phone charging time calculator

Enter your battery size and charger watts to see how long a charge really takes.

Charging slows down after 80%

A rough estimate. Heat, cable quality and what the phone is doing while it charges change the real time.

How the estimate works

Battery capacity is listed in milliamp hours (mAh). The tool converts it to watt hours using a typical battery voltage of about 3.85 volts, then divides by the power the charger delivers after losses. Real charging is slower than the charger label because heat, cables and the phone's own load waste some energy.

Phones also slow down as the battery fills. Most charge fast up to about 80% and then taper, so the last 20% takes much longer than the first 80%. The tool adds that taper to the estimate.

Why your phone may charge slower than the number you see

The phone, the cable and the charger must all support the same fast charging standard. A 65 watt charger cannot make a phone that accepts 25 watts charge faster. A worn cable, a dirty port or a warm phone also lowers the speed. If charging is much slower than the estimate, try another cable and charger, and read our guides on charging problems.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to charge a phone from 0 to 100%?

Most modern phones take between one and two and a half hours with a matching fast charger, and longer with a basic 5 watt charger. Use the calculator with your battery size and charger watts for a closer estimate.

Does a higher watt charger charge my phone faster?

Only up to what your phone accepts. The phone controls the speed, so a charger with more watts than the phone can use does not speed things up, and it is safe to use.

Why does charging slow down after 80%?

The phone reduces the current near full to protect the battery and limit heat. That is normal and helps the battery last longer.
