Forgot your Apple Account password? How to reset it
The quickest way to reset your Apple Account password is from a device you are already signed in to. No email or security questions needed.

Method 1: from your own iPhone or iPad (fastest)
This works when you are still signed in on the device, even if you have forgotten the password.

Open Settings and tap your name at the top.

Tap Sign-In & Security.
On older versions of iOS this is called Password & Security.

Tap Change Password.

Enter the passcode you use to unlock your iPhone.

Type your new password twice and tap Change.

Method 2: from a friend's or family member's iPhone
Use the free Apple Support app. Nothing about your account is saved on their phone.

Enter your Apple Account email or phone number and follow the steps.

Only use Apple's official address. Ignore any link sent by text or email that claims to reset your password.

Confirm the phone number you use with your account.

Apple will usually send a notification to your other devices. If you have none, you may be offered account recovery.
If you see “Account Recovery”
Account recovery is Apple's last resort when it cannot confirm who you are. It is deliberately slow to protect you from someone else taking over your account. You will get a text or call when the account is ready. Avoid using the devices signed in to that account in the meantime, because that can cancel the request.

Yes. Apple renamed Apple ID to Apple Account in 2024. The email address, password and everything linked to it stay the same.
Will resetting my password delete my photos or data?
No. Changing the password does not touch your photos, contacts or iCloud data. You may need to sign in again on your other devices.
How long does account recovery take?
It depends on how much information Apple can verify. It can take a few days or longer, and Apple Support cannot speed it up. Leave the request alone once it has started, because canceling resets the wait.
