How to change a group chat name on iPhone

Tap the group icons at the top of the chat, then Edit Name and Photo. Everyone in the group sees the new name.

Rename the group

    Open the group chat in Messages.

  2. 2

    Tap the group icons at the top.

  3. 3

    Tap Edit, then Edit Name and Photo.

  4. 4

    Type the name and tap Done.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I name the group?

The group is SMS or MMS, usually because someone uses Android without RCS. Only iMessage and RCS groups can be named.

Does everyone see the new name?

Yes. The group gets a notice that you changed the name.
