How to delete your Instagram account (or deactivate it)
You can delete Instagram right in the app. It is permanent after 30 days, so save anything you want to keep first.

Delete your Instagram account

Download your data first.
Accounts Center › Your information and permissions › Download your information.

Open your profile and tap the menu (☰).

Tap Accounts Center › Personal details › Account ownership and control.

Tap Deactivation or deletion and choose the account.
- 5
Select Delete account, tap Continue, choose a reason and enter your password.
Frequently asked questions
How long until my Instagram account is gone?
It is hidden right away and permanently deleted 30 days after your request. Logging in during those 30 days cancels the deletion.
Does deleting Instagram delete Threads?
Your Threads profile is tied to your Instagram account. Deleting Instagram also removes the Threads profile.
