iPhone time zone not changing automatically when traveling? Fix it
Your iPhone uses location and your network to set the time zone. If either is switched off, the clock stays on home time.
The fix
6 fixes, in order

Turn on Set Automatically.
Settings › General › Date & Time › Set Automatically.

Turn on Location Services.
Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services must be on.

Turn on the Setting Time Zone switch.
In Location Services, scroll to the bottom, tap System Services and turn on Setting Time Zone. This hidden switch is the most common cause.

Reconnect to the local network.
Turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, then off, or restart the iPhone after landing.

Update iOS.
Time zone rules change now and then, and updates include the latest ones.

Set the time zone by hand.
Turn off Set Automatically, tap Time Zone and search for the nearest city.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Set Automatically greyed out?
Screen Time restrictions, a work or school profile, or your carrier can lock it. Check Settings › Screen Time › Content & Privacy Restrictions, and ask your IT department if the phone is managed.
Do calendar events change time zone too?
Yes, unless Time Zone Override is on. Check Settings › Apps › Calendar › Time Zone Override and turn it off if you want events to follow your current location.
