Samsung Call Brief on One UI 9: what it is, which phones have it and how to turn it on
Call Brief is a new One UI 9 feature that shows details during a call. Samsung's own page lists only some phones, while news sites say more. Here is what is confirmed, how to switch it on, and what to do if it is missing.

One UI 9 started rolling out to Galaxy phones in September 2026, and one feature in it gets asked about more than the rest: Call Brief. People read that it shows useful information on the call screen, then open their Galaxy and cannot find it. Some blogs say the Galaxy S26 has it. Samsung's own support page lists only the newest foldables. This is a good example of a new feature where most of the answers you find are partial or disagree. This guide explains what Call Brief does, what Samsung confirms, what the news sites say, how to switch it on, and what to check if it is not there.
What is Samsung Call Brief?
Samsung describes Call Brief as a feature designed to enhance phone calls by displaying relevant information directly on the call screen. The example on Samsung's page is event details. If you are on a call and need to check what is in your calendar, Call Brief shows it so that you do not have to leave the call and open another app. Samsung also says the timeliness of the information depends on the time and the call environment, so results may vary, and that the screenshots on its page are simulated and for demonstration only.
Which Galaxy phones have Call Brief?
Here the sources differ, and we want to be clear about which is which.
- Samsung's support page: says the feature exclusively started with the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8. It also links to a separate list of supported Galaxy AI models, which we could not read.
- Samsung's newsroom: says the official One UI 9 rollout began with the Galaxy S26 series on 16 September 2026 and will roll out gradually to other Galaxy devices. It adds that availability may vary by country, region, language, device model and software version.
- News sites: several say that Call Brief is part of One UI 9 on the Galaxy S26 series, and that some FE models do not get it. Those are not Samsung statements, and we could not confirm them from Samsung's pages.
So the honest answer is this: Samsung confirms the Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Flip8. Whether your Galaxy S26 or an older phone has it depends on your software and country, and the only reliable test is to look in your own settings, as shown below.
How to turn on Call Brief
Samsung's page gives two ways to turn it on. Menu paths can differ by country, model and software version, as Samsung notes.
Turn on Call Brief from the Phone app
- 1
Open the Phone app.
- 2
Tap the three dots (More) at the top right.
- 3
Tap Settings, then Call settings.
- 4
Tap Call brief and switch it on.
If you do not see Call brief in the list, your phone may not support it yet.
Or turn it on from the Settings app
- 1
Open the Settings app.
- 2
Go to Galaxy AI, then Call assist.
- 3
Tap Call brief and switch it on.
What does Call Brief need to work?
- A Samsung account. Samsung's page says you need to be logged in.
- An internet connection. The information is fetched while you are on the call.
- Personal data intelligence turned on. Samsung says this is needed for best results. The path is Settings, Security and privacy, More privacy settings, then Personal data intelligence.
Personal data intelligence is a privacy setting, so read what it covers before you switch it on. If you do not want to share that kind of data, you may prefer to leave Call Brief off.
Why is Call Brief missing on your Galaxy?
- Your model is not on Samsung's list. Samsung lists the Fold8, Fold8 Ultra and Flip8. Others may follow.
- One UI 9 has not reached your phone. The rollout is gradual, and carrier versions come later. Check Settings, then Software update.
- Your country or language is not supported. Samsung says features can differ by country and language.
- You are not signed in to your Samsung account. Sign in under Settings.
- A setting is off. Check Call settings in the Phone app and Call assist under Galaxy AI.
To check your software, open Settings, tap About phone, then Software information, and look at the One UI version. If it is lower than 9, update the phone. See our guide on how to update your Galaxy to the latest software.
How do you check your Galaxy model and One UI version?
Check your phone before you look for Call Brief
- 1
Open Settings and tap About phone.
On some phones it is under General management.
- 2
Check the Model name.
Compare it with the models Samsung lists on its support page.
- 3
Tap Software information and look at One UI version.
Call Brief is a One UI 9 feature.
- 4
Go back to Settings, tap Software update and install any update.
The rollout is gradual, so your update may not be ready yet.
What does Call Brief change for you?
Without it, checking something during a call means pulling the phone away from your ear, leaving the call screen and opening another app, then going back. With it, Samsung says the information is on the call screen. That is a small saving, but it matters on calls where you need a time, a place or a detail from your calendar. It is not a replacement for taking notes, and Samsung itself says the information may vary with the time and call environment. Treat it as a helper, and double check anything important.
Is Call Brief safe for privacy?
Samsung's page does not go into the privacy details, apart from needing Personal data intelligence. Because the feature looks at information such as your events to help during a call, it is reasonable to read the privacy text that appears when you turn it on, and to look at Settings, Security and privacy to see what you have allowed. You can switch Call Brief off any time in the same place you turned it on.
Does Call Brief work for every call?
Samsung describes it as showing relevant information during a phone call, with results that depend on the time and the call environment. That means it may not show anything on some calls. The pages we read do not say if it works for calls from unknown numbers or for video calls, so we do not claim that.

Buying a Galaxy for Call Brief? Check first
If Call Brief is the reason you want a new phone, confirm support before you pay. Do not rely on a news article or a store listing. Open Samsung's support page for Call Brief and look for your exact model, and check the separate list of supported Galaxy AI models that it links to. Samsung says menu paths and features can differ by country, model and software version, so ask the seller or Samsung which version the phone ships with. A feature that is listed for one country may arrive later in another.
What to tell Samsung Support
- Your exact model name and your One UI version, from Settings, About phone.
- Your country and carrier, since carrier versions can arrive later.
- Whether you looked in both places: Phone app settings and Galaxy AI, Call assist.
- Whether you are signed in to your Samsung account and have Personal data intelligence on.
- The date of your last software update.
Still can't find Call Brief?
If your phone is a Fold8, Fold8 Ultra or Flip8 and the option is missing, update the software and restart, then look in both places: the Phone app settings and Galaxy AI under Call assist. If it is another model, it may simply not be supported, even if a news site says it is. Samsung Support can tell you for your exact model and country.
