AirPods not charging? 8 fixes for the case and earbuds
Dirt on the contacts and a flat case cause most AirPods charging problems. Both take a minute to check.

Try another cable and wall adapter.

Charge the case alone first.
If the case is under 10 percent it cannot charge the AirPods.

Clean the contacts.
Use a dry soft brush or cotton swab on the stems and slots. Do not use liquids or sharp tools.

Seat each AirPod fully.
The status light should blink when they drop in.

Center the case on a wireless charger.
The light should turn on for a few seconds.

Turn off Optimized Charging.
Settings › your AirPods › Optimized Charge Limit or Optimized Battery Charging.

Update the firmware.
Leave the case charging near your iPhone for 30 minutes.

Reset the AirPods.

Why is only one AirPod charging?
Dirt on that AirPod’s stem or the bottom of its slot is blocking contact. Clean both gently with a dry soft brush and make sure the AirPod sits fully down.
Why do my AirPods stop at 80 percent?
Optimized Battery Charging holds them at 80 percent to protect the battery. It finishes later, or you can turn it off in the AirPods settings.
