For years, the foldable iPhone was a rumor with many names. It was the iPhone Fold, then the iPhone Ultra, and every article gave a different price and a different date. Now it is real. Apple announced the iPhone Duo on 9 September 2026, opened pre-orders on 16 October, and set 23 October as the date it reaches customers. If you search for it today, you will still land on older posts that quote guesses. This guide uses only what Apple has said on its own pages, so the price, the dates and the specs are the confirmed ones. Where Apple's pages are silent, we say so, instead of filling the gap with a rumor.
What is the iPhone Duo?
Apple calls the iPhone Duo its first foldable iPhone. Opened, it has a 7.6-inch inner display and Apple calls it the thinnest iPhone ever. Closed, it uses a 5.4-inch outer display that Apple says has 90 percent of the screen area of an iPhone 18 Pro. The two displays share the same aspect ratio, and both support ProMotion and Always On. A footnote on Apple's page gives the real diagonal measures as 7.58 inches inside and 5.36 inches outside.
iPhone Duo price: what does it cost?
Apple lists a U.S. starting price of $1,999, or $83.29 a month for 24 months. That is the entry model, and Apple offers four storage sizes: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The pages we read name only the starting price, so check Apple's store page for the cost of the larger sizes. Older rumors put the price higher, between about $2,200 and $2,500, so the confirmed price is lower than many people expected.
Apple also lists payment options in the U.S.
- Apple Upgrade: a lease run by Klarna, with 12 and 24 month terms and a lowest advertised price of $57.99 a month on 24 months, before tax and any trade-in credit.
- Apple Card Monthly Installments: 0 percent APR, with 3 percent Daily Cash back earned up front. This is for the U.S. only.
- Carrier deals: AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon have offers. Apple's page says AT&T requires a $35 activation or upgrade fee and bill credits over 36 months.

Why does eSIM only matter?
The iPhone Duo has no SIM tray, anywhere in the world. Your carrier gives you an eSIM instead. If you are moving from another iPhone, you usually transfer the line in the setup screens or with your carrier's app. Check that your carrier supports eSIM before you buy, and make sure you can move or reactivate the line. See our guide on how eSIMs work, and on how to transfer an eSIM to a new iPhone. Apple also lists a new iPhone Handoff feature that lets you switch between two iPhones with the same number on supported carriers. At launch Apple names T-Mobile in the U.S. and Telekom in Germany.
Trade-in and carrier credit
Apple's October page says Apple Trade In gives an instant credit of $175 to $885 for an eligible iPhone 13 or newer, applied to monthly payments. Carriers advertise larger credits, up to $1,200 in the case of a trade-in of an iPhone 14 Pro Max or higher, with conditions such as bill credits spread over 36 months. Those are the top figures, and your actual credit depends on your phone and its condition. If you want to know why an offer can drop after inspection, read our guide on why an Apple Trade In value can come in lower, and our tips for how to trade in a phone.
Accessories and AppleCare
- iPhone Duo Case: $79, in sand or navy blue, with a two-part design.
- iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand: $129, in navy blue or taupe.
- AppleCare: Apple says AppleCare+ and AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss are available in select markets. AppleCare One covers more devices, and the Family plan is U.S. only.
Both accessories work with MagSafe, Qi2 25W and Qi-certified chargers, according to Apple. For a phone that costs this much, think about whether protection makes sense for you. Our guide on AppleCare and what it covers sets out the trade-offs.
Siri AI and apps on the iPhone Duo
Apple says Siri AI is in beta with iOS 27, starting in English. It is not available in China and not initially in the EU, it has daily usage limits, and it is not for users under 13. Apple also says developers are updating their apps for the iPhone Duo, and that Split View and StandBy work on either display. See our guide on how to get Siri AI for the steps and requirements.
What is new on the iPhone Duo compared with other iPhones?
Apple lists several features that are specific to the Duo. It has Camera features called Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime, and a FaceTime camera under the inner display. Its 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera is the same as on the iPhone 18 Pro models, according to Apple. Apple also says Apple Pencil with USB-C support is coming later this year, and that content adapts as the device folds, reorients when turned sideways and switches displays when flipped. These are Apple's launch statements. We have not tested them, so judge them against independent reviews.
Is the iPhone Duo different to set up?
The setup follows the usual iPhone steps, with one big change: because it is eSIM only, you activate your line with your carrier during or after setup. If you are moving from an iPhone, Quick Start can bring your data across, and our guide on what to do when Quick Start does not work helps if it fails. If you are coming from Android, see how to move from Android without the Move to iOS app, which works with Android 17 or later.
What Apple's pages do not tell you
- The prices of the 512GB, 1TB and 2TB sizes. Check the Apple Store page.
- Whether it is in stock where you live today. Stock changes by country and by store.
- Real-world battery life and durability, which only independent testing can show.
- Repair costs for the hinge or the inner screen, which Apple has not listed on these pages.
- Whether the iPhone Duo has the variable aperture of the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple's page does not say.
Should you buy an iPhone Duo?
That depends on what you want, and it is a personal decision. It costs more than an iPhone 18 Pro, and you give up a physical SIM. In return you get a much larger screen in a pocketable body. If a bigger screen for reading, video and two apps side by side matters to you, it is the first iPhone that offers that. If you want a proven design or a lower price, a standard model is the safer choice. Wait for independent reviews and repair prices if you are unsure, because they will tell you things that a launch page cannot.
